Supported formats
Everything this site can open, and everything it can save to. If your file is on this page it will convert; if it isn't, it won't, and we'd rather tell you that here than after you've dropped it in.
Open and save
These you can drop in and convert to. Both directions work, so any of them can be your starting file or your result.
- JPG.jpg
Universal. Small photos, no transparency.
What is a JPG file? - JPEG.jpeg
Identical to JPG, longer extension.
- JFIF.jfif
Also JPEG. Windows sometimes writes this.
- PNG.png
Lossless, keeps transparency. Bigger files.
What is a PNG file? - WebP.webp
Smaller than JPG, keeps transparency.
What is a WebP file? - AVIF.avif
The smallest files of the modern formats. Takes a little longer.
- BMP.bmp
Uncompressed. Large, but universally readable.
- ICO.ico
Windows icons and favicons.
Open only
Drop these in and they convert to anything in the list above. The tool cannot save back out to them yet, so they work as a starting point rather than a destination.
- GIF.gif
Read only for now — first frame is used.
- SVG.svg
Read only — comes out at its natural size.
- HEIC.heic
What your iPhone saves. Read only.
- HEIF.heif
The same thing as HEIC, different extension. Read only.
Save only
You can convert an image into this, but not start from one.
- PDF.pdf
One page, sized to your image.
Why this list is shorter than most
Because it only contains formats that work. Every one listed above has been built and tested, and nothing is here on the strength of being planned.
Go and compare it with the competition and the difference is stark. The going rate is a hundred-plus formats advertised on the front page, and the number is doing marketing rather than describing anything — plenty of those entries are obscure, several are handled by passing your file to somebody else's service, and a few simply don't work when you try them. A list is only useful if you can trust the entry you care about.
So this one grows as things get built rather than ahead of it. More formats are on the way and they'll appear here when they genuinely convert, which is also the moment they appear in the tool — the changelog records each one as it lands. If the format you need isn't here yet, tell us; that is the single most useful thing that shapes what gets built next.
Format guides
Longer explanations of what a format actually is, when it's the right choice and how to open one. Three are written so far, for the formats people ask about most.
